Election Rules & Campaign Guidelines

Key Dates

Registration & Application: August 17 – August 30 (closed)
Campaign Period: August 31 – September 10
Voting Period: September 11 – September 14
General Assembly: September 28

Rules for Candidates

Candidates must be Jewish students enrolled at a Canadian university or post-secondary institution.
Candidates may only run for one position.
Provincial representatives must be enrolled at an institution in the province they wish to represent.
Campaigning must respect CUJS’ values of respect, inclusion, and constructive dialogue. Negative or discriminatory campaigning may result in disqualification.
No campaigning is allowed during the voting period. Candidates may only send neutral reminders to vote.

Membership Deadline

New members must have joined CUJS by September 10 at 11:59 PM in order to vote.
No new members may be added during the voting period.

Meet the Candidates

President

Pe'er Krut

Pe’er is a JD/MBA candidate at the University of Toronto. She holds an Honours Specialization in International Relations from Western University. Jewish advocacy has been a cornerstone of her student life: she is a former Lauder Fellow, Co-Chaired the CJPAC Fellowship before joining its Alumni Committee, and now serves as Co-President of the Canadian Jewish Law Students’ Association, where she helped revitalize the organization. Her writing on Jewish advocacy has appeared in the National Post, the Canadian Jewish News, and her campus paper. Beyond the Jewish community, Pe’er worked as a Research Assistant at the Ivey Sustainable Finance Lab, focusing on Indigenous inclusion in investment, and is passionate about sustainable business and the role of law and finance in driving meaningful impact.

David Gurov

I am no politician - I am a biomedical-engineering graduate, a Jewish student just like you. How Jewish am I? Proudly and unapologetically Jewish! I’ve always worn my David Star openly - especially on Al-Quds Day. Beyond pride, I learned about Yiddishkeit, even spending time in yeshiva. We Jewish students must stand strong together on a campus free of antisemitism. Instead of waiting, I chose to act: I joined CUJS as Ontario Rep and co-founded United Against Antisemitism. I became a go-to voice on antisemitism, met officials, built partnerships, and - most importantly - stood up against discrimination by antisemites and weaknesses among our ranks to strengthen us. I’ve also been very vocal about our kidnapped hostages - hanging 1,500+ posters across campus, raising funds for rallies, and organizing awareness events. Alone we’re mistreated, together we will be undefeated.

Vice President External

Noah Guttman

My name is Noah Guttman, and I am entering my fourth year in political science at the University of Ottawa; I am running in this election to be your VP External. I am very passionate in learning about my Jewish ancestry, the issues facing Canadian Jews, and how effective public policy can address them. As your VP External, I will strive to apply this same passion towards my work; this will allow me to effectively build relationships with organizations and stakeholders that share common goals and that allow for the breakdown of inter-community barriers. In addition, I will apply my learning from my political science degree to ensure that CUJS can work alongside such organizations and stakeholders to play a role in influencing the relevant policymaking at all levels of government.

Amanda Israel-Sultan

My name is Amanda and I am an undergraduate psychology student at Concordia University. I am deeply passionate about fostering an inclusive space for Jewish students to strengthen their identities and find comfort in having other like-minded individuals to surround them. Like many these days, I have faced exclusion, threats, violence, and a general feeling of unrest being on campus as a proud Jew, and have seen first-hand the immense importance of having a strong and skilled group of individuals to back you when things get tough. It is for that reason that I am running to be the VP internal of CUJS this coming year to continue their incredible mission of supporting all Canadian Jewish students. I feel that my skills as an organizer and communicator would ensure a smooth running of all operations this year so that everyone can benefit from CUJS. Thank you!

Jacqueline Snidman-Stren

I am running for VP People & Culture of CUJS because I believe in building an inclusive and empowering Jewish student community across Canada. Currently, I serve on the board of both Hillel and Chabad Concordia and as a StandWithUs Emerson Fellow. This past year, I had the privilege of serving as CUJS VP Internal, where I gained valuable experience supporting students and helped grow our national network. These roles have deepened my commitment to fostering Jewish pride, leadership development, and meaningful engagement. As VP People & Culture, I will prioritize ensuring that CUJS programming reflects the diversity of our community, while creating opportunities for every Jewish student to feel represented, supported, and inspired. I am eager to continue building a strong and connected CUJS that empowers the next generation of Jewish leaders.

British Columbia Representative

Liel Shapiro

Hi, I’m Liel! I’m an Israeli/Jewish student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, and I’m running for BC Representative. The safety of Israeli and Jewish students on Canadian university campuses is very important to me, and I want to help make sure we all feel supported, heard, and safe.

Ethan Doctor

My name is Ethan, and I want to represent you as your BC representative. I am currently enrolled at Langara College, working toward two diplomas in Business Management and Marketing. I am a former CJPAC Fellow, spent the summer on Parliament Hill as an intern for Member of Parliament Dan Albas, and I am currently an Emerson Fellow. Leadership is in my blood, and if you choose to vote for me, I promise to work hard to ensure that BC students are well represented. I will bring forward local issues related to BC, support advocacy efforts, and serve as the link between CUJS and BC schools. I hope I can count on your support!

Ontario Representative

Phoebe Starnino

Hi! My name is Phoebe and I’m a 3rd year Computing student at Queen’s University with a minor in Jewish Studies. On campus, I serve as Co-President at Hillel Queen’s where I have the honour of representing the Jewish student body and bringing Jewish joy to campus. As a Co-Chair for the CJPAC Fellowship, I believe that unity across partisan lines, and all other divisions, is essential to the future of the Jewish people. I’ve been involved with CUJS since its birth as the Director of Marketing, developing a brand and method to bring Jewish students’ voices to the centre of the conversation. I am running to be the Ontario Representative because I believe in bringing Jewish students together across campuses as the leaders of today and spreading Jewish joy across this province.

Quebec Representative

Nina Feldman

Hi! My name is Nina Feldman :) I'm originally from the U.S. but now live in Montréal for university. I'm a third-year student at McGill, studying Political Science and Jewish Studies. I'm passionate about social justice and advocacy, and I plan to continue my academic journey by pursuing a degree in constitutional law. My long-term goal is to build a career in Jewish diplomacy, with a focus on drafting legislation to combat antisemitism. At McGill, I’ve been deeply involved in the Jewish community - working to champion student safety, foster pluralism, and bring meaningful community service initiatives to campus. I have previously served as Vice President of Advocacy for Hillel McGill and participated in several fellowships, including the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee Fellowship, the American Jewish Committee Goldman Summer Fellowship, and NYU’s Collegiate Leadership Internship Program.

Election Process

Voting will take place electronically between September 11 and September 14.

Members will be emailed a Google Form link to cast their ballot.

You must input your email address on the form.
This email must be the same one you originally used to register as a CUJS member.
If you use a different email address, your vote will not be counted.
You will first vote for the executive positions.
Then you will select your province and vote for your provincial representative.
If a position has only one candidate, the ballot will include that candidate’s name and an “Abstain” option.
If a position has two candidates, the names will be listed in randomized order so that no candidate appears first by default.

Results

Candidates will be informed of the outcome within 48 hours after the close of voting.
Official election results will then be announced publicly at the CUJS General Assembly on September 28.
